The History of Hollandbush Golf Club
As early as the 1920’s the idea of a golf course in Coalburn was thought about by George Clark Snr. and 9 other “would be” golfers.
On 18th November 1954, George Clark Snr, John Hamilton and John Middlemiss convened a public meeting which was attended by 16 people interested in constructing a course. A committee was formed and the first official Hollandbush Golf Club was born.
In July 1955 a layout for 9 holes was surveyed by James Lawson, Professional from Hamilton Golf Club after a lease for ground on Hollandbush Farm was agreed. After much work by Club members and friends, 9 holes were ready for play in 1958.
The former dilapidated farm building was rebuilt and converted into a clubhouse, it can still be seen at the 14th green today.
In 1957 a ladies section was formed and in 1959 a greenkeeper was employed for 6 months at a wage of £3.00 per week.
In 1963 the course was passed into the hands of the District Council and an additional 9 holes were soon added as well as a new clubhouse.
The present Clubhouse was opened in 1993.
In 2002 George Clark Jnr. died ending the Clark family association with Hollandbush Golf Club and in 2011 Jim Hamilton (son of John), and a founder member retired after 50 years as a committee member, including 42 years as secretary.
